Commissioned Work
Some of the most meaningful works that I’ve made began with something fleeting—a video clip, a photograph, a memory, a gesture. I offer a limited number of commissions each year, with a focus on projects that are personal in nature—works that hold a story, a sense of presence, or a memory that wants to be translated into visual form.
Each commission is a collaboration. Whether we begin with reference material you already have or work together to capture new images, I approach each project with care, intuition, and a deep respect for the subject. My goal is not simply to reproduce what’s visible, but to interpret it—to craft a visual experience that holds both clarity and atmosphere, intimacy and ambiguity.
The Process
Every commission unfolds a little differently, but here’s a general outline of how I work:
Initial Conversation
We’ll talk about the subject and your goals—what inspired the idea, what you'd like the work to hold or evoke, and any references you may already have (photos, videos, written memory, etc.).Proposal & Estimate
I’ll follow up with a written proposal outlining the scope of the project, including size, materials, timeline, and estimated cost.Source & Studies
I’ll select or help generate source images and develop a series of color and composition studies in gouache or digital mockups. These will give you a sense of how the final piece(s) might look, and allow us to make any necessary adjustments before I begin the finished work. The work(s)
Once studies are approved, I’ll begin creating your work. This part of the process takes time—usually several weeks depending on size and complexity. You’ll receive progress updates along the way.Delivery
The finished work will be carefully packed, and shipped or delivered. I do not frame commissions but am happy to make recommendations for framing options.
